That feeling when you find out a whole lot of people feel the same lethargy and languishing as you do.

That feeling when you take a break from social media, and people in general, to sit in your feelings and find a sort of guiltless peace.

That feeling when you find that by slowing yourself down, you light a spark of motivation to crochet after weeks of feeling like it's a chore.

That feeling when you see the pics of your photoshoot reflect the joy of completed projects.

That feeling when you wake up and realize your puppy has allowed you to sleep through the night.

A quick life update.

I have been slow and sluggish since April, and when a friend asked if I was ok, I didn't really know how to answer. Why the lethargy? The reluctance to socialize, do the Instagram thing, be strong woman entrepreneur productive?

It's taken until now to understand maybe this is a deep, aching type of burnout and grief. Not the "I pulled 3 all-nighters, I'm burnt out", but a reaction to the fact that we've been adapting and adjusting to so many things in our lives for the past 16 months (especially as a mom). Every little decision comes with extra questions of safety, boundaries, and juggling our desire for a return to pre-pandemic life with knowing this is the new reality.

It sounds strange, but if we used the word "grief" to describe our lives last summer, then in a way, I see this time as I see the loss of a loved one. Things have changed, and even though gatherings are taking place, many of us are vaccinated, and we are outwardly happy and well, it's never really going to be the same as before. We move forward, socialize, see people again. For an extroverted introvert, it is both exciting, and exhausting.

I find I don't have much to say. It feels like life is trying to drag me out of bed. I am tired. I'm trying to figure out what brings me joy, what parts of my business I actually like, and what can be shed like dog hairs in the wind, while maintaining the family machine of activities, house fixes, bills, chores,and fighting this desire to simply watch the summer days drift by.

Call it whining if you will, or burn out, grief, laziness, exhaustion. I'm here but not quite here, but I also know this is a season that will pass, so I'm giving myself the leeway to sit in this time, reassess, recharge, and re-whatever else I need to get going again.
