Your next arm workout. 🧶

Despite what you all thought of my ginormous crochet hook from this weekend's stories (vampire self-defense or more... self-pleasure? 🤫😊), I ended up not using a hook, and hand-crocheted for the first time in my life. I've actually crocheted this dang leaf 4+ times now, trying to get the tension just right so I can use every last bit of this luscious yarn, and making it as big as possible.
.
So far, this tube yarn has held up amazingly well to being frogged over and over again, while keeping the stuffing inside very ever throughout. I kinda want more of it, k @lionbrandyarn? 😉

Today's PSA - The Myth of the Quick Video: Why you shouldn't expect makers to drop what they're doing and make you a video.

First, there is no such thing as a "quick video". Designers do make tutorial videos, with intention. However, we are not at your beck and call.

Making a video is like making a mini movie. I have to storyboard exactly what I want to share in order to save myself editing pain later. I have to find yarn that shows well on camera and doesn't break any contractual agreements. I need to set up lights and camera in a small space, and find quiet time in a house with a wfh husband typing on a mechanical keyboard 🙄, 2 kids, and lots of loud electronic devices.

Oh, and just because I'm a designer doesn't mean I'm comfortable speaking on camera. I try to talk and crochet/knit at the same time, while sounding natural, while keeping my hand motions clear. I stumble , and curse, and drop things, and then have to start all over, and over, and over.

And then the HOURS OF EDITING. Choosing the best takes, removing the stumbles, and joining them all together, to produce a high quality product - it takes more time that you think.

So the next time you want to hop into someone's email or DMs and request a quick video, try these steps instead:

🔸:: Understand your exact question - "I'm confused" is not specific enough.
🔸:: Do your own research - GOOGLE IS YOUR BEST FRIEND.
🔸:: Swatch a small part of the project by following the instructions to see if it makes sense once you actually do it. If you're going to ask me to work up a small part of the project to show you, why not do the work yourself?
🔸:: And if all else fails, reach out to the designer with your specific question.

Be respectful, do not shame, do not be passive aggressive, or worse, aggressive, and *do not expect an answer. We try to get back to most people, but we're not corporations with support staff. Me? I'm an individual, independent designer with multiple wips and deadlines and projects, juggling a household and teaching my kids how to safely Google for themselves.

All I can say is, if you're feeling a little sapped of creative energy, do the following:
1️⃣: Take a break.
2️⃣: Daydream.
3️⃣: Ask for help.
4️⃣: Rearrange/remove your deadlines as much as you're able.
.
Thanks to some daydreaming, and taking a week off social, and asking for help in my last post, this pretty Truboo is going to turn into a Summer Diamonds tent dress (thanks @paigehaynes! 😘), with instructions for length and width modifications, so you can make a tunic or a shirt, or a dress. That's the plan, and I'm stoked. And if I'm stoked, there's a much better chance of bringing my vision to reality.

Question for you. Would you wear an adult version

Question for you. Would you wear an adult version of this tunic top/dress? I've had several requests over the years to make an adult version, but also sort of felt that it is too young of a style for me to wear. But maybe I just feel old, or maybe I'm plain wrong. Maybe I just don't know how I would style it?
