Would ya look at that. I still got it. This ability to pick up a crochet hook and create something - a little love for @madelinetosh, as I'll be the crochet designer for their 12 Day of Madelinetosh calendar kit, along with my knit cohort, Vincent of @visuvios_crafts.

Most of you know I've been on (and still am) on a break from yarn and this hamster wheel we call social media. At this point, who knows if this is a break or the new normal, while I wiggle into who I really want to be when I grow up. This time of discovery and change and rest and busyness, it has helped distill my design style down to its bones - simple but stunning, form and function. Because why would I spend time on anything else? And with all the burdens on our time, why should you?

So we're gonna keep it simple for this calendar kit that's currently available for pre-order. You'll get 1 full skein and 4 mini skeins of Tosh Vintage in gorgeous colors, my 2 crochet designs, 2 knit designs from Vincent, and a slew of maker gifts - the stuff we all love to unbox and squeal over.

Roman arch or strange pair of pants? Neither. I'm attempting my first Tunisian crochet stuffed animal and who better to help me along than the queen herself! I'm so out of practice, thank goodness Toni put everything TC into her handbook, from stitches to shaping, working in the round, seaming, gauge, and finishing. I'm gonna need all the help I can get. There are also 20 beginner friendly projects to work on in case you're not crazy like me and trying to design a stuffed animal. But even as a designer, I'm so appreciative of the thoroughness and detail of her tutorials. I can see myself writing better and more consistent patterns while following the system Toni has set out.

✨ It's May! And it's Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

✨ If you've ever wanted to ask: What are you? (human) No, I mean, what are you? (...American? ...) No, I mean, what ARE you? (... heavy silence ...)
I know what you mean, I know it just comes from an honest curiosity (doesn't it?) but it can be an awkward question. I've asked it myself, to my friends (awkwardly and with love), wondering if their heritage is Chinese or Japanese or Korean, and where our commonalities and differences come from.

✨ I got you. I'm Chinese. I was born in Taiwan, and immigrated to the US when I was 5. I guess I lived in mostly white communities and didn't find anything uncomfortable with it until I moved to California and discovered the liberation and comfort that comes from being with my own people. I did the good little Asian thing (were they my parents' expectations, or were they my own interpretations of ingrained stereotypes? Future therapy session for sure!) - I played piano, viola (not violin, ooh the rebel), went to college, became an electrical engineer, got a masters degree, got married, had kids, a stable job....and then I went poof and now I spend my days hoarding yarn and posting pretty pictures in the internet.

✨ AAPI Heritage Month is to celebrate the richness our various cultures and experiences add to society. Personally, my crochet and knit designs reflect who I am, which in turn is a product of my heritage and experiences. This is who I am, this is what I look like, and this is what I bring to the table.

Hey yo. Happy Monday, I think. Honestly, when you work from home, or rather, not work so much right now, days sometimes blur together. Only my phone notifications and a desk calendar are keeping me sort of on my game.

Here's my excuse for not working right now. My husband isn't working right now. He's on a bit of a leave, and with all our troubles over the autumn, it's nice to just take a deep breath, a long break, and actually spend time together. We went shopping! I bought JEANS. And he waited while I tried them on! We have lots of plans for the summer too, but work looms, and deadlines abound. I can't lay around like a sack of potatoes forever.

I have completely reorganized my yarn stash in my new vintage mid century modern wall unit. It's there giving me the glare, like I do when I want my kids to do their homework. At least it's pretty to look at. Maybe I'll do a quick tour in Stories this week? Interested?

⭐ It's been a ROUGH season, y'all. Mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, every other -ally. I fainted for the first time in my life. And let me tell you, dropping to the patio in the middle of a sentence is NOT as romantic as swooning into a hero's arms. Got myself a bruised tailbone and then slept for a week. But hey, it's all starting to come together. We have a new, clean basement, a soon to be newly painted, clean office, a new mudroom sometime before spring, a dozen boxes to donate, newly refreshed bedrooms, a fenced in yard for the doggo, and most importantly, a kid who is finally the sweet boy I knew he could be. My brain, my muscles, and my bank account need a break! Good thing I'm reorganizing yarn I shouldn't have to buy more for a decade! 😂 (but I will)

Apologies to those who have looked for me and found silence. It's gonna take a while for me to find my groove, and I'm not sure I want the same groove I had before. We'll see. Happy ... What day is it? Happy hump day.
