Snowman Gift Card Holder Crochet Pattern

Fact: I hate giving gift cards. Granted, I don’t necessarily dislike receiving gift cards since it’s still a gift, but giving a gift card tends to make me feel like a cop-out. Giving a gift card in a fun holder like this owl pouch or this snowman gift hard holder makes it all ok. You can give the perfect gift (card) with a pretty heavy dose of cuteness too. I love that this snowman hugs the gift card like she’s going to transfer that hug to the person you’re giving the gift card to. ‘Tis the season for warm fuzzies!

The gift that keeps on giving? Why not dress up a plain gift card this year with an adorable snowman gift card holder? Free pattern! | www.1dogwoof.com

This small project comes together quickly in an evening, and is a great scrapbuster too, since the mittens and hat don’t use up much yarn at all.

As with my other patterns, you are welcome to sell the finished item and hey, it’s meant to be given away, right? Please do not distribute the pattern in its entirety, commercially or otherwise. You can direct friends and family and group members to this page where they can access this free pattern for themselves. See my Terms of Use for more details.

I made the snowman gift card holder but can’t figure out how you did the pocket on it. Could you help me? Thank you, Annette

  8. Evelyn Jackson

i love your pattern. I have done things like this before. I can see hoe it could be changed into Santa, angel, Mrs. Santa, even a deer. My mother in law does plastic canvas. The first year she did a Santa for the kids ( was buying for all grand and great grandkids. My grandkids thought they were great Christmas ornaments. They did not know there was money in them until a cousin threw a fit because it was not a big gift. They were already telling where on the tree they were going to put them and how to keep them til they grew up to put on their own tree. My Grandkids are boys.

  9. Debby

This snowman is so cute, the pattern is perfect and worked up quickly without a problem. I did make a few changes. I made two of the hands and sewed them together so it is right side on each side. Used safety eyes and made him a matching scarf! (chain 40 and half double crochet) I also used a bit of Velcro on his hands.

  10. Diane

This is just so cute and the perfect thing I was looking for to hold the gift cards I am giving as gifts. Thanks so much for sharing the pattern and your expertise! Happy holidays!

  11. Lina Vallee

I am just in the process of making this snowman, Can you please help me. Where is the head instructions? I’m hoping you still check these comments as I know this was posted few years back; but I’m hoping.

  12. Lina Vallee

Hi Debbie, Hoping you can help me. I’m not sure where I went wrong but where are the instructions for the head?

  13. Michele

    Hi Lina!
I had the same problem and used the head pattern for the unicorn gift card holder on this same website. It worked just fine. Hope this helps!

  14. Rae

The body includes the head. Just follow the pattern. Hope this helps.

  15. Rae

The head is in the body instructions. Just follow the body pattern and it will make the head at the end. Hope this helps!

  16. Ashley

How are you able to get the pocket? I tried to make this and for some reason theres no pocket
I really hope you still look at this xp
    Thank you so much! c:

  17. Kelley

Thanks for the pattern. It’s super cute. Such a great idea. I can’t seem to get the hat size right. It seems much too big.

  18. Donna

Me either! Did you hear back from her? I was lost at row 12….chain 8 and skip 10 stitches. ??

  19. ChiWei

Hi Donna, yes, the pocket is created by skipping stitches in the round. As you keep working around, those skipped stitches are the opening to the pocket.

  20. Debbie S

I was having a REALLY hard with this as well. I think I FINALLY figured it out. For row 13, you sc in the chain 10 part and not in front of it. I made 2 of these and was so frustrated as it wasn’t working out and then the lightbulb went off in my head!! Hope this helps!!

  21. Kels

    This pattern is so cute!!

I’m just stuck on round 9 of the hat. What do you mean by “1 sc in sc of previous row”? How do I do that?

    Thank you so much!

  22. Kels

Hah! Never mind I just figured it out 🙂

  23. bad fingers

I am also having trouble understanding round 12 of the body. Specifically the ch8 skip 10 st) I am with you through round 11, but then my stitch number does not match yours. I have more than 24 stitches. Can you send illustrations by email?

  24. Charmaine Power

Donna S. Your a life saver!!! Row 13 did me in 6 times. I knew something wasn’t right. Thank you for figuring it out!!! Any other suggestions for the arms etc?

    Charmaine

  25. Stefanie Baggott

I don’t know why, but my snowman was too small to hold a standard sized gift card. I used a 4mm hook and size 4 yarn.

  26. ChiWei

Size 4 yarn can have quite a bit of variation, so if it was a thinner size 4 that could affect the size. Individual crocheters have different tension as well which affects the end size as well.

  27. Caryn

I can’t seem to get the mittens to turn out right. Do you have any additional pictures/tips?

  28. ChiWei

Hi Caryn, unfortunately, I do not have additional photos of this project.
