Simple Chocolate Heart Valentine

by | DIY, Kids, Paper, Spring

I’m in the process of putting together some resolutions for this year, blogging and otherwise, and one word keeps popping to mind: Minify.  Simplify.  I feel like my life is soooo cluttered with stuff, with noise, with schedules and obligations, that I just want a clean slate!  Anyways, I’m working on it, but right now, it’s #MyFavoriteBloggers theme month time.  I bring up the whole “minify” thing because for this month’s theme project, I wanted to make a school valentine for J, but after scrolling through pages and pages of clever sayings and punny candies, all I wanted was the simplest easiest valentine possible.  So here, hearts + chocolates = Chocolate Heart Valentine.  Doesn’t get much more basic than this!

Of course, since I have a Cameo, I had to complicate matters a LITTLE bit by designing and cutting the card with the machine instead of by hand.  I even broke out the sketch pen to do my writing for me.

First, I created a 2.75×3.75 inch card, which I guess is the same size as Project Life cards.  Don’t know why I did that, I don’t do Project Life, but it’s a nice ratio for a card.  The wording is done using the Calamity Jane font and a grey felt tip marker in the Silhouette pen holder.  The heart is just a trace of a random heart clipart I found online.  And the chocolate?  Well, I had a couple while crafting.  But I did save enough to do the valentine’s for J’s class – they’re Dove Strawberry Swirl heart shaped chocolates.  I liked them because they were pink which matched my pink graph paper.

I’ve made the Silhouette cut files available for download. There are 2 files for this project, one to cut the card itself and draw the words, and the other file to cut the hearts. Remember that for the base card, you’ll need to switch to the Silhouette pen to draw the letters, and then switch back to a blade to cut out the cards!

Use a Silhouette Sketch pen to write out your message. Add a heart and a chocolate for a quick valentine!

To assemble, I had the Cameo create the cards and then I just glued the graph paper hearts onto each card.  The chocolates were attached to the cards with a bit of double-sided tape.

You know, a lot of those clever school valentines are awfully cute, but I really couldn’t imagine my son going up to his best bud in school and saying “You Melt My Heart” or “I’ve Got My EYE on You!”.  He’s just not that type.  I’m not sure what type he is yet – maybe just the “Oooh, I WANT CHOCOLATE!” type.  So, he’s going to take these simple cards in for his class, maybe with just a “Your Friend, J” written on the back.  Minify minify minify. This is really cute. I love simple, yet this looks fabulous!! I’m just new to learning how to use my Silhouette. The sketch pen looks like a great tool to use, but it’s still a bit out of my skill level. I’m hoping to play with it soon. : ) Thanks for sharing such a perfect idea.

  21. ChiWei

Thanks for stopping by Deb! I LOVE the sketch pen, especially because I don’t have a printer. It works just like the blade, except it draws instead of cuts 🙂

I think these are super-cute. I’m sure your son’s school friends are going to love getting them for Valentine’s Day.

I love everything about this glass block cookie jar. My only problem would be that as much as I love the way that the Sweethearts candy looks inside the glass block, I love eating them even more and soon the candy jar would be empty! Haha!

This will make such a great Valentine’s Day gift! Thanks for sharing the tutorial and the cut file.

I’m really honored that my “LOVE Banner” was included in the Silhouette “Valentine’s Day Round-Up” along with your cute Valentine’s!!!

    Peace, Love and Joy,
    Joyce
