The best part of being a designer is doing whatever the hell you want. In this case, pockets + hood + ribbing for daaays. 💁🏻‍♀️

And the best part of this community is having people who can talk you off a cliff before you frog half the project in unfounded despair. Thank God for my lovelies at knit night who encouraged me to keep going when I was ready to give up on this whole idea! ❤️

Now to figure out how to grade this thing, and then call for testers! I'll be tuning in to @knitatude's Live later to hear her grill @thetecheditorhub because this design is making me ask allll the grading questions.

It's taken me all week to decide on my favorite ma

It's taken me all week to decide on my favorite makes for @montana.crochet and @knitbrooks #CreativeRootsWeek6, so here we are.
.
I look fondly back projects that really utilized my engineering skills, because solving a puzzle feels so damn good, but there are other projects that I look back on and wonder:
.
How on earth did I do that?
.
1) This first one is a huge, twin size blanket that uses corner to corner crochet to map out all 12 years of the Chinese Zodiac, but cute. I think this took about half a year to design and make, and is my largest project to date.
.
2) My whale is my readers' favorite make, and I love it too. Figuring out how to shape a 3D animal that wasn't round and perfecting that characteristic humpback curve was an interesting challenge for sure!
.
3) This last one isn't so much of a favorite make, but as many of you have shared, it's an emotional one. I made this one when I found out that my dad's liver cancer had spread to his brain. I had to travel back to Taiwan and decided I needed to make something *anything* and not knowing exactly why. I worked furiously, finishing each flower square in 5 straight hours each night, and then making the plain c2c squares because I was ran out of time to make enough flower squares. I flew back to Taiwan, seamed it together at my parents' apartment, and draped it over my dad's hospital bed. It was his wheelchair blanket - he loved the vibrant colors and kept telling me I should do this as a living. 😭 After he passed, my mom returned it to me, telling me it was too precious to be buried with him and that I should keep it to remember him. 😭😭😭
.
The whole blanket took 2 weeks, and I still don't understand the black-out urge I had to create it. I've never worked faster or in more panic than this project. I still can't look at it without needing a therapist.🥺
.
And there you have it. Week 6. I swear, this #CreativeRootsChallenge is gonna mess me up. We need a "what is your favorite color?" week. 🥴

🎉WAK X Me! Can you believe it?

Please help me welcome the #HalifaxPoncho, an oversized yarny hug that's part of @weareknitters Makers Around the World, a collection that brings together 8 designers and 8 amazing designs. I'm so honored to be a part of this group!

If yarn could be a hug, then the #HalifaxPoncho is it. Maybe it was the anxiety of the coronavirus, or homeschooling, or just any part of 2020🥴, but I was really aching for something to wrap (hide) myself in, and the #HalifaxPoncho was born. It uses @weareknitters The Wool, a gloriously soft and chunky yarn, and is worked top down, so you can try it on like that first cascade of hot water in a shower!🧖‍♀️ There's side slits for when you actually might want to use your arms, and of course pockets to keep those maker hands warm and toasty.
