DIY Sequin Ornaments

by | DIY, Home, Winter

These sequin ornaments are so beautiful and would look great on any Christmas tree. Plus, they're super easy to make! | www.1dogwoof.com

I was wandering around Michaels the other evening (my preferred method for relaxation) and I saw a small bag of glitter covered styrofoam balls.  Pretty, but nothing unique…until I saw a little sequin ball in the same package.  As Gru would say, “LIGHTBULB”.  And guess what?  I had picked up a roll of hot pink sequins a while back from the Michaels impulse buy section, and they were sitting at home just waiting to be used.  So, during LM’s morning nap, I whipped up these sequin ornaments for our tree.

These beauties don’t look easy, do they?  I wouldn’t want to glue on individual sequins, but the whole strand thing makes this project a piece of cake.  And the best part is, you can recover/renew/repurpose any old battered ornament and make it into something shiny and glittery and totally tree-worthy.

Start by gluing the sequin strand to the bottom of the ornament with some hot glue.  It’s important to try to find the true “south pole”, if you will, so the round of sequins aren’t crooked, but you can always work around it.  hehe, pun intended.

Then just keep hot gluing and wrapping the strand around the ornament until you get to the top.  I used a bit of silver washi tape to wrap around the top of the ornament, because mine was a funky green color from previous failed spray paint attempts.

I’m so so happy with these that I wish I bought more of those sequin strands when I saw them in the impulse buy baskets.  They were $1.50 for a roll of 5 yds, and my one roll covered 2 ornaments.  Ack, now I have to keep an eye out.  And I feel justified in my random purchases, yeah!

I love these! Such a great idea to incorporate the sequins and having them in pink looks very fun and playful. I’ll have to try this to refresh some of my older ornaments that have lost their shine. 🙂

I’m surprised by how much I love these! I’m not usually a sequin fan but these are awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Me too, actually! I’m not normally big on sequins so I’m not sure why I bought the roll in the first place, but I love the result!

Ha, I did the same thing. I found some on Amazon, probably enough to make a whole tree’s worth!
