It’s another exciting day! It’s New Year’s Day (duh), the sun is shining, and I can conceivably stay in my pajamas all day. I’m also being featured in an introductory post on Blissful and Domestic, which is super exciting as I hopefully make myself known to a whole new set of readers!
Since there’s an intro post about me on another blog, I figure I should probably spend some time telling you about myself, here, on my own little corner of the interwebs (as Drew likes to call it).

I’m ChiWei. I’m married to a super handy dandy guy who builds things, Drew, and I’m a mom to the cutest little boy in the world. Sorry, but c’mon, I’m his mom, of course I think he’s the bomb diggity. I’m also part owner to a lovable golden retriever. Note that I did not say I’m her pack leader. That title falls to Drew, the Cesar Milan of the house. In our little pack, I’m not first. I may not even be second, for that matter.
I’ve moved around a lot, spending time in Taiwan, Ohio, Montreal, and New Jersey. I am now in New York’s Hudson Valley, enjoying the scenery, the food and the locavore culture. I work full time, sitting in front of a computer all day, then come home to our family’s evening routine. After a while, I figured I can do more than this, that I used to have hobbies, and liked to do things for myself, before the mom and wife duties overtook everything in my life.
I’ve always liked making things, and now writing about it forces me to start things and finish what I started. I make gifts for friends, projects for J and help fix up the house. I enjoy crochet, but have not gotten into knitting much. My sewing skills are not superb, but I’ll work on it. And when I want a break, I read. Voraciously. As in, the 3 Hunger Game books in 3 days. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 1 day. Count of Monte Cristo, Little Women, Gone with the Wind, Pride and Prejudice.
I like to eat; therefore I like to cook. I don’t follow recipes. I like to garden, because it leads to good eating. I am a member of our local CSA, because it leads to good food, and thus, good eating. Seeing a trend here? Although, on lazy days, I’m a big fan of ramen, and soy saucing up leftovers. Yes, “soy sauce-ing” is a perfectly acceptable activity in our house.
I think I have a pretty decent theme for my New Year’s resolutions this year -> to make NEW FRIENDS.
1. I’d like to find a church home, and get more involved in the community. Our families do not live close by, and I’d like to build up a system of friends around us as I fully accept the fact that I’m a grown up now, and settle down in this place we call our home.
2. I’m going to blog more, and meet people through blogging whom I may never see in person, but may touch my heart all the same.
3. I want to start an Etsy shop, and try to make some extra cash to hire a babysitter every once in a while.
4. I want to get to know YOU! I don’t bite, and neither does our dog. Our boy is growing up fast, and I’d love for you to come grow with us!
