Christmas Advent Calendar with Bible Verses

by | DIY, Printables

UPDATE:

I’ve updated the source for the PDF, in case you don’t want to get it from Scribd.

After seeing all the advent calendars Pinterest has to offer, I’ve finally gotten around to making my own version. ย I love the counting down part, but I wasn’t too keen on having to buy 25 little presents for bubs to find, especially since he wouldn’t understand any of them anyways. ย I also wanted to start a tradition that helps all of us remember the point of the holiday season, especially since I feel this time of year is getting more and more commercialized, with Christmas songs on the radio starting right after Halloween, the early Black Friday, and this Elf on a Shelf phenomenon. ย In the end, I decided to do an advent calendar using library card holders, like the one below, butย instead of holiday activities written in each pocket, to fill each day’s card with a Bible verse that will tell the Christmas story.

The thought of having to go through and split the relevant Scripture into 25 pieces almost defeated me, until I found Tricia’s awesomeย advent calendar tutorial on her blog, SweeterThanSweets. ย She provides a breakdown for each day’s Bible passages, as well as an object to help teach that day’s verse. ย Since I wanted to follow the library card theme, I took her breakdown and made a set of cards depicting the passages and objects from each day.

To hold the cards, I bought some library card holders and stamped them with the advent numbers. ย This was the easy part.

The project isn’t completed, and I know I’m late, but I will post the final product once I find some twine, my clothespins, and a piece of wall long enough to hold the whole strand.

Here is the card set, available in PDF format ->ย Printable for Bible Verses Advent Calendar. ย  Just download it, print it, cut it out, and you have a wonderful Christmas lesson!

I’ve provided the PDF through Google Docs now as well, in case you can’t get it through Scribd, as it seems they are making it more difficult to access archived files. Or, just email me and let me know where you’d like me to send it!

Wow this is just the type of idea I had for a gift – actually for members of my cell group as we are training to be Pastoral Assistants in our churches and wanted something to make for each of them that wouldn’t take too long, I could personalise and would help us to keep thinking of each other during this special time. This just nails it for me. guess the printer will be busy as soon as I replenish my stocks of printable card ๐Ÿ™‚
Thank you for sharing your inspiring idea.
God bless you and your family.

Thank you Sara! I think even if you don’t use it as an advent, the cards and verses themselves are so meaningful for this time of year anyways, and I agree they’d make a great simple gift!
